The stock market is the place where the public can buy and sell a share of companies such as Safaricom, EABL, Equity Bank, KCB and so on. When one buys a share of these companies at a certain price, they can make money if the price of the shares go up, or when the company they have bought makes a profit and declares a dividend. If I had bought say Kes 3000 of Safaricom shares, I become an owner of the company. Meaning when Safaricom is splitting its profits among its owners, I will also get some money because of that. Buyers of shares should study the companies they plan on buying so that they do not lose money if the share price goes down. In Kenya, the stock market is called Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).
